Introduction to food safety
What is the course about?
The course provides a brief overview of all the relevant features of the Food Standards Code such as food processing, personal hygiene, cleaning, storage and maintenance. Outlining key requirements for the correct handling of food and how to identify, control and report food safety hazards. Participants will gain knowledge of the importance of maintaining both work and personal hygiene standards and provides participants an understanding of the key aspects of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Upon completion of the training, participants will be
- Aware of the regulatory framework for the food industry
- Able to identify food safety hazards
- Able to follow food safety procedures in the workplace
- Able Identify and report food safety issues
- Comply with work and personal hygiene standards.
- Handle food safely.
What do I do if I need to cancel my booking?
Please contact AUS-MEAT immediately to avoid any cancellation fees. Full payment is required no later than 5 days prior to the commencement of training.
A 50% cancellation fee will apply on cancellations received less than 10 working days prior to commencement of training.
NO refunds are given for cancellations received less than 5 working days prior to the commencement of training.
Any transfers between courses will incur a $100 fee on each instance.

English is not my first language! Will I have problems?
All AUS-MEAT training courses are presented in English. A sound understanding of the English language is required. All workbooks and assessments are conducted in English. If required, the use of dictionaries or tablets are acceptable.

How will you be assessed
You will be required to complete various online learning modules before undertaking the assessment. This assessment consists of both multiple choice and short answer questions. Participants are then required to nominate an experienced work colleague to complete a third-party observation report and upload into the learner portal. The assessment tasks will assess your knowledge of food safety systems as well as your practical ability.
Issue of Certificates
At the successful completion of this course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
Participants will receive the following Nationally Accredited Unit of Competency from the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Training Package.
Units of competencies issued:
FBPFSY1002 – Follow work procedures to maintain food safety
This unit sit within numerous Cert II and Cert IV qualifications including Cert II and III in Food Processing.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, you do not need to bring anything as this is all self-paced online learning.
